"I had no idea I would love being a mother until I became one."

-Casie Zalud

Wholeheartedly photographing the life of Boulder families since 2010.

I’m Casie. HAVE KIDS, STILL TRAVEL. I prefer a passport full of stamps to a home full of stuff.

I believe less is more when it comes to TV, processed food, and being the same as everyone else.

Someday my family will get a second car, it will be a Eurovan camper with solar panels.

I am an avid cyclist, skier, and yogi, and connoisseur of whiskey and potato chips.

As an introverted extrovert, I prefer a crowd of six to a crowd of 106.

I speak dog and my husband is trying to teach me to speak cat.

Sharing a home cooked meal and game night with friends and family is the way to my heart.

“Wholehearted living is about engaging with our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion and connection to wake up in the morning and think, ‘No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.’ – Brené Brown

FROM THE TENDER
TO THE MAYHEM

A documentary family photography session entails inviting me (the photographer) to spend time with your family in its natural state and make pictures of ALL the moments in your day. Intimidating, but rewarding. (I’ve been there, too.) But those seemingly boring, mundane moments?

That’s where the magic happens.

You know you're in the right place if...

You have a sense of humor, quite often laughing at yourself and the crazy mayhem that happens daily in your family.

You 100% encourage your kids to be kids, however that looks and whatever adventures that presents.

The very thought of a Pinterest-perfect, outfit-matching, picnic-in-a-field-of-flowers, family photography session sends your entire family running away screaming. (now that would be something fun to photograph!)

You enjoy doing things all together as a family and value experiences over things.

You feel your life is passing you by at warp speed and if you could only… just… slow… it…down.. for… a… moment… (for crying-out-loud already!)

You may feel like your life is boring and not worth documenting, but
I pinky swear to you, that’s not the case.

I promise to wholeheartedly photograph your family in a way that celebrates the curiosity of childhood, the mayhem of family life & the devotion of parenting.

What can I photograph for you?

as a mom, I really appreciated the photos BIG time because I'm always the one taking the photos and hardly in any of them with my kid.

“ The photos turned out awesome and we had such a great time working and hanging out with Casie as well. She really puts you at ease and makes the whole experience fun. We really wanted some photos to capture what our life looked like--the good the bad and the messy, and we got it from Casie's photos--and we love it! Nothing felt forced or fake, which I really appreciated."

WHY THIS WAY

My documentary approach to family photography boosts kids’ self-esteem by showing them they are a vital part of the family unit and encourages them to embrace their true personalities while liberating them from the stresses of perfection.

“The pictures I love most of my family are the ones that capture real moments of our family life (which often means I am not showered or looking my best).” – Casie Zalud

I’m okay with that, because my favorite pictures aren’t about how perfect I look, but about the connection I’m experiencing with the person in the frame.
