Did you know that more than 14,000 children in Boulder County live below the poverty line and are at risk of dropping out of school? Did you know that I Have a Dream of Boulder County (IHAD Boulder) is working hard to help these children? It is their mission to motivate and empower children from low income communities to reach their education and career goals, by providing a long-term intervention program of mentoring, tutoring, and cultural enrichment. I love this organization, the people involved, the Dreamers and their mission.
When IHAD Boulder contacted me to photograph their 14th Annual Luncheon, I hesitated because it is a busy time of year for me and I didn’t want to let them down. I am so glad I decided to pack it all in because I was part of a very special day with IHAD Boulder. The luncheon was centered around their founder, Eugene Lang, who founded IHAD in 1985 at his grammar school in East Harlem. Mr. Lang is a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient from President Clinton, and a “Point of Light,” designee of President George H. W. Bush. He is overall a very amazing man, and I was so honored to be present photographing the event. At the end of the tribute video to Mr. Lang, the 500 plus guests rose to their feet to give Mr. Lang a standing ovation, which brought a few tears to his eyes, and many other people’s eyes too.
Thank you IHAD Boulder for all your work in Boulder County, thank you to everyone who attended and helped make IHAD’s 14th Annual Luncheon the best success yet, and Mr. Lang—THANK YOU for being an inspiration to us all and having such a powerful vision and commitment to children and education.
