“Got Cheer? Want Gear?” This is the tag line to The Women’s Wilderness Institute’s 9th annual fundraising event March 16, 2011 at the Dairy Center for the Arts. This is one of my favorite fundraising events in Boulder. It is always an entertaining evening with live music, plenty of local beer, wine and food tasting as well as a plethora of “Gear” to purchase at amazing prices while helping a local nonprofit organization raise some funds. I am proud to announce I am supporting this year’s Gear & Cheer event not only by attending, but also by donating a portrait session to the silent auction. So come out and bid on that family portrait session you have been putting off for months.
Maybe I love this event because I am a gearhead. Or maybe I love it because playing in the outdoors is revitalizing to my soul. Or maybe I love it because I am a firm believer in empowering girls and women through adventures in the wilderness. More likely I love it for all of those reasons.
This year’s Gear and Cheer event is, “All About Girls,” with a goal of raising $40,000 for the Girl’s Wilderness Program to help them continue to create programs that build courage, confidence and leadership for girls.
